Teamwork
Teamwork is one of the key ingredients to successful litigation and trial outcomes.
Every member of a team has different skill sets, and when all team members work effectively together you maximize the team’s overall impact.
As a sole practitioner working primarily with other firms on cases of all sizes, I have learned to integrate myself into any team and contribute in a variety of ways. From being responsible for entire aspects of cases and trials, to jumping in to assist when the team was spread thin, to merely providing strategic advice. And in many cases, my role on the team changes over time based on the needs of the case.
The StreamScale v. Cloudera case is a good example of my changing role on a team. The team was made up of lawyers from two law firms plus myself. Initially, I was primarily providing strategic advice. As the case got closer to trial, my involvement ramped up due to my familiarity with the Court. Then, only two days before testimony was to begin, the team asked me to take on a substantive portion of the trial with which I had not previously been involved.
The experience was particularly satisfying, not only because I had the opportunity to work with great team members from two different law firms, but also because of the outstanding result we obtained–a $240 million verdict in our client’s favor.
